Coastal Combatives is the organization he created to offer Jiu-Jitsu to the general public, military and law enforcement communities. The scope of the programs not only covers the techniques, but also includes the cross training, mental preparation, and traditional mentorship that is a critical part of becoming a proficient practitioner.

Coastal Combatives is now offering Youth Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes for civilian and military children ages 5 through 18. Classes are held at the Child Service Center at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah GA. Get your children started today. Call for more information 912-687-6402.

Mr. Spendiff Earns Top Honors at NSCA TSAC Conferance

Coastal Combatives Head Instructor Garth Spendiff spoke at the first annual National Strength and Conditioning Association, Tactical Strength and Conditioning (TSAC) Conference hosted at the M-Resort in Las Vegas NV March 9-11. There were 26 presentations covered over the 3 day conference with National and Internationally representatives from various military (SEAL's, RANGERS, Marines, Israli Special Forces), Law Enforcement (FBI, US Marshals, Secret Service, Customs and Border Protection), and many local and state firefighter and law enforcement groups.  Mr. Spendiff partnered with colleagues from the Advanced and Basic Border Patrol Academies and spoke and demonstrated various aspects of the hugely successful U.S. Border Patrol Standardized Physical Conditioning Program which he developed in 2007. A post conferance survey identified Mr. Spendiff and his colleagues as the highest rated speakers of the event. 2010 TSAC Conference

March 9 – 11, 2010 • Las Vegas, NV

The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) successfully hosted the first annual Tactical Strength and Conditioning (TSAC)Conference in Las Vegas, NV at the M Resort on March 9 – 11, 2010. The conference hosted 275 attendees from high-level law enforcement(SWAT, DEA, FBI), military (Special Operations, Marines, Navy, Army, Coast Guard) and fire and rescue. Attendees arrived from variousparts of the United States and included international guests fromAustralia, Japan, Canada, United Kingdom, Israel and Brazil.The TSAC Conference consisted of two tracks, lecture-based sessions and hands-on demonstrations. Some of the topics covered included recovery, nutrition/supplementation, implement training, Olympicstyle lifting, agility, workout programming, movement screening techniques and corrective exercises, functional training and circuit training to name a few. All sessions discussed the topics as they relateto the tactical operator. Some of the most dynamic speakers in the strength and conditioning industry presented the latest research and practical application information while teaching attendees cutting-edge tactical strength and conditioning techniques and methods. Highlighted presentations included Garth Spendiff’s, “U.S. Border Patrol Mobility Training” that captivated audiences as well as his session, “U.S. Border Patrol Muscular Endurance and Strength Training.” Joe Martin’s session entitled,  “Strength and Conditioning for the Tactical Athlete” also provided invaluable knowledge. Next year’s TSAC Conference is scheduled for April 26 – 28, 2011 at the M Resort in Las Vegas, NV and promises to be a great way to interact with other operators or coaches from various agencies from around the world.

Coastal Combatives Leads 3ID to 2nd Place Finish at 2009 All Army Combatives Tournament

Coastal Combatives Head Instructor Professor Spendiff was selected as the Head Coach for the 3rd Infantry Division 2009 All Army Combatives Team. Professor Spendiff designed and implemented a 6 week preparatory program that involved intensive double sessions 5 days per week, 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening. The training program included basic and advanced Brazilian jiu-jitsu, clinch and take down work, striking and conditioning. All the hard work and dedication paid off with 3ID taking second place overall. Coastal Combatives is proud to have had the great opportunity to work with all of the courageous, and outstanding men from the 3ID All Army Combatives Team. We are looking for Gold in 2010.
